Interference Environment
Though spacing of Macro Cells can be large, they still realize significant degradation of performance as a result of intercell interference from adjacent cells. Small Cells result in densification that generates complex interference environments for themselves and the co-existing Macro Cells. These interference conditions cause network degradations that impact subscriber experience.
Opportunity
By being able to intelligently suppress interference in Macro and Small Cells, the experiences of large numbers of subscribers are all impacted at once, with particular improvements being realized by the worst-performing subscribers at the 'edge-of-cell' or in the midst of a complex HetNet environment. Not addressing these types of interference is a missed opportunity to improve network operation, efficiency and user experience.
Our Solution
Collision Communication’s interference suppression solutions for Macro and Small Cells address the interference at these distributed sites where there is limited cross-haul of information between sites, dramatically improving network performance. Integrated as a PHY-layer software solution that resides in the baseband processor, Collision’s solution requires no new hardware and can be applied to already-deployed networks.
Benefits
Collision's solutions can improve Macro Cell spectral efficiently by over 40%, with the ability to realize gains upwards of 200% for edge-of-cell users, and the capability to crunch through the challenging interference seen in Small Cell environments. But the real benefit is that these improvements mean that cells have greater capacity and flexibility, edge-of-cell issues can be resolved, and users have better QoE, all funneling into the improvement of the network's bottom line.
Interference Environment
A key component and challenge of implementing M-MIMO systems is being able to understand and take advantage of the different channels that signals between the M-MIMO system and the devices travel. Understanding those channels and then accurately beamforming or combining signals is a complex science that requires sophisticated techniques in order maximize the performance of such systems. Traditional techniques yield gains, but leave a lot of opportunity untapped.
Opportunity
By having a larger number of antennas to leverage, the theoretical performance and versatility of the network increases dramatically. This opportunity can’t be taken advantage of sufficiently without sophisticated PHY-layer processing. Collision is able to apply its proprietary signal processing approaches to the larger number of signals the base station generates (Downlink) or receives (Uplink).
Our Solution
Collision Communications has applied its exciting channel estimation, equalization, and beamforming technology to M-MIMO systems to realize significant performance gains on both the Uplink and Downlink. As a PHY-layer software solution, this technology is able to be applied in a flexible manner to a wide variety of M-MIMO systems and configurations, is scalable, and enables exciting new opportunities to maximize spectral resources.
Benefits
Collision’s M-MIMO solution affords large gains in spectral efficiency over what industry is able to provide on both the Uplink and the Downlink, as well as able to reduce the number of antennas in the array to half or a quarter while still out-performing industry solutions. These gains are achieved through Collision’s ability to achieve near-perfect channel estimation and much more accurate beamforming. Collision’s M-MIMO solutions can even allow multiple M-MIMO sites to operate jointly to realize M-MIMO CoMP.
Interference Environment
Handled incorrectly, a densely deployed C-RAN is an interference disaster, causing significantly degraded performance. Handled correctly, interference boundaries disappear and interference becomes a useful signal.
Opportunity
C-RAN enables the ability to leverage reception of signals at multiple sites -- jointly-processing received signals from numerous distributed antennas provides the opportunity to schedule numerous purposely interfering signals, yielding unprecedented spectral efficiency.  For many use-cases, this is a game-changer, so long as your signal processing can handle it.
Our Solution
Collision Communication’s C-RAN solution is a PHY layer approach to jointly receiving and processing signals to provide phenomenal network performance. Capable of jointly processing signals from 28 antennas, Collision’s solution requires no additional hardware than what would already be used for an equivalent deployment of Macro sites. Collision’s solution is applicable for indoor and outdoor and small or large cell networks.
Benefits
The result of Collision's C-RAN solution is tremendous performance gain over existing state-of-the-art receiver technology, ability for increased clustering, and improved efficiencies.  The performance gains are more than double that of state-of-the-art C-RAN receiver technology, and over 6x that over more traditional network architectures.  These benefits provide for a much stronger C-RAN value proposition and ultimately yield better performing high-capacity networks at lower costs.
